Big Chief

It's always fun to guess which song you'll hear most often on any trip to New Orleans, and there was an upset this time around. "Hey Pocky Way" easily took the prize, as it was covered frequently, although I heard the recording of The Meters' original numerous times, as well. Bruce Channel’s "Hey Baby" was definitely the most popular number for marching bands. But if I’m going to be honest, the one song I heard the most, and probably the least forgettable part of Mardi Gras, was Craemer’s scat-singing version of “Big Chief,” which he would bust into once every 18 minutes:

Shigga-digga flick dap dooba
Bomp. Bomp-bomp-bomp-bomp.

Bomp. Bomp-bomp-bomp-bomp.
Shiga fligga wigga flop flop doo ba.
